Project Overview

Traditionally, the phrase "operating theatre" (OR) denoted an amphitheater where physicians and learners could observe surgical procedures. We reimagined this concept to enhance its accessibility. Scrub TV enables surgeries to be broadcasted and viewed in real-time globally within medical communities.

Problem Statement & Research

In the realm of surgical training, there's a pressing need to effectively deliver current and relevant surgical content. Contemporary surgeons, driven by the demands of their profession, are actively seeking platforms that are not only readily available but are also interactive and up-to-date. While traditional methods have fallen short of meeting these requirements, our comprehensive analysis of user behaviors, preferences, and industry trends has identified a gap for a tailored, engaging streaming platform.

The pivotal moment occurred following data examination, initiating conversations, and gathering perspectives from healthcare professionals. Our persistence uncovered an indisputable need for a platform similar to Scrub TV – using the R&C Visor-V smart glasses remote software to record these sessions. These can then be streamed on Scrub TV , where you can book a seat in the 'auditorium' and watch from anywhere in the world. A venue that nurtures development and collaboration among medical specialists via globally accessible education. Where rare occurrences can be featured and shared within a community.

  • Through workshops, four distinct user profiles for Scrub TV were identified: Healthcare Professional (HCP), Channel Admin, Channel Manager, and Viewer Only, each having unique permissions and job priorities.

  • To cater to these varied needs, a dynamic side task bar was introduced, displaying profile-specific menu items. Secondary navigation was addressed with an in-window tab menu.

  • Challenges arose with users affiliated with multiple companies, necessitating login/logout procedures to ensure HIPAA compliance and data privacy.

  • Additionally, a step-by-step form was designed to streamline the addition of new TV events or channels. The evolution aimed at providing an intuitive experience while addressing diverse user needs and compliance requirements.

Scrub TV's design evolution wasn't just about creating an intuitive platform; it was about recognising the nuanced needs of different user categories and ensuring that each felt seen and catered to. While we have made commendable progress, the journey of refining and adapting continues. With each iteration, we aspire to bring more efficiency, clarity, and user-friendliness to our diverse user base.
